Business Spaces Revisited

Proposal on the establishment of Work Spaces

Introduction

Walk casually into any cafe in Kampala or most our our cities for that matter, and the chances are, the conversations you hear will be about business or politics.
At the center of many of this meetings, a well prepared meal often serves to calm the nerves to release the openness necessary for trade to take place.
Look around these places and you will find someone fidgeting with a mobile device or urgently typing away on a notebook computer. Put all these things together and you have a recipe for a good business idea.

The Idea

The presence of wireless hotspots is not new nor is the idea of allowing guests access to the facilities for brief meetings. What we suggest is the creation of strategic business spaces in every cafe or restaurant to make business more accessible.
As the name suggest and the three images, the spaces would merge already existing ideas to help put in place an idea that is ready to be received. Who can get involved

We propose the involvement of groups like ICT Ministry, Enterprise Uganda, Ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development, Uganda Communications Commission, Uganda Revenue Authority, Universities and other development partners.
What's in it for you

1. More clients for your beverages as well as access to local markets which are often ignored by businesses.
2. Direct contact with Universities and institutions for the use of graduates and interns.
3. Access to research from Universities on better business practice.
4. An opportunity to mentor your people and to help prepare the next generations.
5. The chance to decentralize business practice by taking services to the people.
6. A place to innovate and research complex business models (restaurant, office space, relaxation zone all in one).
Conclusion.

The role each group plays will be determined as discussions commence. What is most important is the idea that most of the infrastructure is in place and needs only to be improved to facilitate better trade.

The involvement of the URA would be in providing access to simplified business registration processes on site or via the internet.

The Ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development would provide access to it youth policies and practices as well as help speed up the process by which persons with disabilities are able to access services in the city.

UCC would help coordinate the services and the cost of wireless service providers as well as the bidding process. Working alongside the UCC, Telecoms would play a role in providing software and hardware to guarantee better services.

Other discussions should center around the effective use of Ministry Information especially with regards to Coffee and Tea and the method by which farmers and suppliers can benefit from the process.
