Desktop Ubuntu
Banshee
Works a lot like the rest of the team...but was downloaded to see
if there is a tool in Ubuntu that can get access to the IPAD and tis music. FYI Ubuntu has a different file system structure and can often help you to understand Apple's File Structure.
Blam Feed Reader
There are times when i want to access information in
small bits and in a classified manner.
This feed reader has standard categorized blogs that cover
most of the Linux based technologies and that can therefore be used to keep afloat with the issues.
Blue Fish Editor
My dual boot environment means that i have to often have a copy of one version of software in one system and an identical one in another system.
Enter Blue Fish. A neat and compact HTML editing tool with
a lot more power under its hood and the capacity to handle other
languages.
Chess
This strategy game is a good tool for those who wish to
improve their skills as well as for those who just want to have fun. The interface is simple and clean and games that are played can be stored for future use.
Evolution
Most people that migrate to the Linux Environment usually want
to ensure that they have a good mail service. This is a good choice and allows you to have acess to your messages, contacts, calender, notes and much more. In addition to this the user can save messages and archive them for the future or for transfer into other message programs.
FireFox Browser
Most Ubuntu Users will be confronted with the question of which
browser to use. We suggest Firefox which can be configured to function with several additional features.
You can also take advantage of its localization features that let you use the software in your language. As well as add other great uses to this software.
Gpodder Podcast Client
After finding and being rather overwhelmed by the data on the Internet and the possibilities, you will
realize that there is a lot more information than you can handle. Information is great but having key to a large library and know one to assist you can be rather daunting.
Gpodder allows you to find video and audio podcasts that are interesting and then downloading them when they become available for use in the future.
MonoDevelop
If you are like me and have an interest in programing but limited access to good tools, this is a start.
OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet
This is a good tool if you need to work on accounts in and need to be able to process them in various platforms. I will often design in OpenOffice and then save in PDF or so that i can get my projects to my clients or save in a format that can be viewed in microsoft word.
OpenOffice.org Word Processor
This tool is useful for those that want to work in word documents and that need access to a simple and yet familiar interface.
Project Management
Do you have an urgent consultancy to work on? Are you concerned about creating the a work plan or a Gantt chart to help
you make sense of the whole program? This software can help.
Scribus
I downloaded this tool because i wanted to be able to design documents and then convert them to PDF format. There are certain tools that are available for that but very few offer the same quality for the task.
Sound Recorder
You can use this tool to record sound and then use these sounds to help you capture that heart of the city. Every city in my view has a beat or a rhythm under which it functions. Use this tool to get sounds from places where you work and then process these sound for other purposes.
Take Screen Shot
This function is indispensable for those that live to work with images and that appreciate the value of pictures.
Terminal
You cannot work in the Ubuntu Environment without using the Terminal.
TomBoy Notes
I am amazed at the possibilities that exist with this tool. It helps you to make sense of all your documents and to give them a 'wiki' feel. Every word that you type can be turned into a link and therefore a separate page.
Xara Xtreme
This is a great tool to work with and after about seven years of working with this tool, i am yet to find something that
matches its capacities and capabilities.
This is a good tool and is also available with limits in most Linux Platforms. There are websites which specialize in getting you to find the most useful equivalents of the software that you were using in XP or MAC for than matter.
