Long Walk of Freedom for Women in Media?

I see it almost everyday. A message on twitter directed to an attractive
host or presenter, stating the obvious,"You looked great today"..."i
love your hair" and then finally..."great show".

Then you get that sick feeling that he beat you to the exit and has
managed to deliver his half-concealed line with ease. Others are not
that subtle. They go on to give out their phone numbers....

This kind of attention would be unimaginable for the male hosts unless
they were dealing with a particular species of women-with a knack of
breaking the rules and an extra helping of testosterone.

The point is, her looks are supposed to have nothing to do with the
presentation or the show (even if we have decided that they do). Her
skills have been given the back seat and it appears, nothing she says
matters anymore.
So she has become fidgety when she appears and in place of her fine mind
she is forced to skirt around the field to fulfill her role.

As these changes continue to occur, they are beginning to spill over
onto the other half. An increasing number of men are beginning to
concentrate on their own personal grooming. Unable to do more with much
else (we cannot wear pretty dresses, we cannot cross our legs to draw
attention to our hip lines, we cannot change wigs or put on an excess of
make-up).

Tough going in the age affirmative action and equal rights.

In the meantime, each side continues to fling mud at the other while
trading accusations on faulty role play.

We hope that we will not have to wait too long until there are some
changes worth noting and when excellence won't be sacrificed on the
alter of appearance.
