Conflict Management Course
I've been working on a course that deals with complex subject of conflict.
I began preparations for this course by simply researching the subject in as many
books as possible, primarily for definitions. I have now learnt that different disciplines have
different perspectives on this definition but that there is a sense in which all the studies are converging into
one thing.
You can approach a subject from many angles. Ours is unique in that we have sought to start from the basic and then branch out into the complex. I have therefore began this study with the thoughts of psychologists
and tips on personality and then completed this study with what i see as the sum total of all this-Leadership and Management.
In my view everything that we learn and develop personally is designed at least in a unique way to equip us to lead and to manage people and processes.
This is the heart of the course. It is built using a moodle platform (www.moodle.org) and even if this is a work in progress, i think that it is a good start. Other sections are being developed based on the interest which we will monitor based on response.
The first course which started last week, was introductory and meant to give the use familiarity with the platform, the second was created to with notes and tests in PDF form with a view not necessarily of creating automatons but drawing the knowledge out of the students. My belief is that a student of conflict if possible should not be trained to fail (to be honest no student should be trained to fail).
I have created the material and approximated the cost at about 300,000 UGX or about 150 USD. Which i think is reasonable for the full stretch of 15 weeks. The course can run in less time especially because these materials are available on-line. There is a working email from which we hope to establish the need of the users, and from which we will be able to create login names and assign passwords for those who wish to join.
