Social Media Battlefields
The game of chess there are Kings, Queens, Bishops, Castles, Knights and Pawns.
The King is an absolute and has no qualms about using his Queen to
defeat his foe.
The Queen is content with her position and will fight to the end in
defence of her King.
Every battlefield has a religious (Bishop) aspect to it...social media
is no different. If a cause has a moral point to it, it will be utilized. Most battles also have to do
with real estate...these are absolute positions...property.
Knight are often skilled warriors who need little or no supervision but
who often have to chose between supporting either the King or the Queen.
The weak pawn is limited in movement but not in ambition. He or She knows
that if he can last long enough in the game, he can rise to be anything he pleases. The pawn also knows that often complex games can be fought with very few pieces...and pawns often feature in these games.
The Kings
There are systems which we have chosen to run our economies and to
determine our methods of governance.
Maybe you want to call them means of production.
These could be at the core of the Social Media game. Words like sharing
can be utilized to trick people into giving up their innovations. Much like the intellectual who if not careful can loose his valuable research notes to an unscrupulous adversary.
The Queens
The companies and the hired hands that help set the pace by responding
to client requests. Even if they are not operating for profit, the end result is still the same. The exert influence and can use the numbers which they hold for their benefit.
The Knights
The individuals who rule by sheer numbers. Most often, writers with Web
logs who influence public opinion. People who mastery of the pen are able to sway the
masses a la Brutus and Mark Anthony.
The Castles
The platforms and the technical gurus that create the complex algorithms
that run them. These guys have the ability to fall asleep while complex software
searches the social media data base for key words which are then ported onto your social media site so that words you mention return to you in the form of other relevant
responses.
The Pawns
Then there is you. Yes the kind of guy who has trouble making friends
and would rather talk to absolute strangers using flats screen and monitors.
The type of guy who runs after all sorts of causes at the expense of
those you claim to love. You have the immense ability to run a thousand miles a way from home to save people you do not know while your very own suffer.
The kind of person who signs up for all sorts of noble causes...like
famine relief while those we care for starve.
