Africa Leadership Dialogues

Africa Leadership Dialogues presented some trends that in their view are driving business
development. This list is impressive and what it mans for me, is that i can take advantage of these trends and create resources, and services around them.

China, Brazil and Africa
If you are not going to be a direct beneficiary of overseas investment, on a national level,
maybe you can learn a language (Portuguese and Cantonese or Mandarin). Perhaps you can
study the history of possible development projects and build or train in skills that might be useful in supporting 'National Projects'. Constructions of road and other infrastructure might call for some skill in welding, carpentry and others.

Agriculture
There are some opportunities here too although much of the work needs to take place with
government. In the past Cooperatives were very useful in harnessing business opportunities and influencing governments in creating better policy mechanisms, but we have suffered a lot under unfair business export practices that often favor produce based on region of origin.
If Agriculture is combined with the trend toward 'green products' (like coffee that is harvested
and sourced from small scale farmers at good costs), much more progress will be made.

Mobile Technology

Something needs to be done to ensure that those who own the land are not just purchasing the
phones but that they are being compensated in return and are becoming content and product
creators in their won right.

Regionalism

While the trends towards greater economic cooperation is encouraging, we must be careful to learn from the Europeans.  Are there any parallels that can teach us a lot more about how to avoid the pitfall of the newer member of the European Community?
Is there a method of avoiding the concentration of powers toward and middle or around historical jagarnauts like Germany and the U.K? DO these parallels exist in Eastern Africa and the Southern African Nations.
