Communi.it vs. Tweetdeck
I was introduced to the two services a few months ago and am trying to make sense of both of them. Commun.it runs and feels like a social media manager. I log in and can instantly see who is who in terms or followers and what the community (commun.it) refers to as people who are engaging, those who are influencing and those who have progressed to the level of promotion (tweeter language). Instantly you realize that each of these platforms often resort to this type of functioning. Facebook created a friends, tweeter created to followers, google created circles, linked in called them members and so on.
The plus side to commun.it is that it reminds you of the importance of staying connected to your followers and classifying them based on 'engagement'. The only challenge with this is that it functions purely on metrics and therefore has little or concern for human relationships...as machines are prone to be. This is the same challenge google search users, facebookers and bloggers have to face. Simple searches are quickly plugged into a system that moves them right back in to an database which then generates responses that give you the impression that you are actually communicating with others.
I is understandable that communi.it can not exist in a financial vacuum. So for a little extra they will get rid of that irritating thank you for being top engaged follower this week message that everyone and their pet favorites.
If you want to take the time twitter has similar lists and ensures that you can be more aware about what it trending in your area. The rules are pretty simple. Give people time to learn and to catch up do not unfriend them. Soon they will get comfortable with twitter and respond to your old D.M and yes understand the meaning of D.M.
Tweetdeck on the other hand has a control panel feel to it. Something I would like to see in the google environment( for your plethora of tools). Advise I normally make available for free (for a group that makes a guzillion of greenbacks).
The great thing with the deck is that you can even schedule messages for later so that piles and piles of presentations can be worked on and tweeted when you are busy in the Bahamans sipping on piña coladas.
So I can instantly get a wholesome feel of my tweetoshpere from home to favorites to searches and much much more...all this before someone asks me to part with the mighty yen!
