Will the 'Real Incubator Please Stand Up'

Incubators were created to provide shelter for pre-mature children. Born before their time. This means therefore, that the businesses that we deal with are alive and functioning enough to be recognizable. The challenge is to keep them alive...now that they have been born and to ensure that they are well equipped to be handed over to the next stage of development.

The good incubator is therefore a facilitator. It is created to ensure that the business person has their needs met and that they are able to function at a new level. But weaning must take place and  development must be measured. We must ensure that clarity of objectives is established from the start. 

The good incubator must therefore clearly define roles and manage contracts. It must be very clear what stage of development the start-up is operating at. People that are dealing with frustrations with collapsing systems must be allowed to find a safe shelter where their creativity can be harnessed.
  
The incubator must also provide a sense of nurture. If the system has been challenged and promises that were made have not been fulfilled, people will continue act drain the system of its resources. There are many things you to do-destroying the hope of the youth is not one of them. 

If the governments in power are true about the devotion to change and the desire to strengthen institutions, then the good incubator will provide skills necessary to empower government workers and tools to enhance security mechanisms. 
Trust is something that must be cultivated. It must be understood that with he references to Arab Springs, the Incubator and the Start-up will appear very suspicious to those in power. Because the source of money will often come from business, the good incubator must also develop models for business that take the power away from boardrooms and into the community.  

In addition to this, we must realize that it takes a lot more to drive a business and its innovation. Identifying people whose love for good work supersedes their love for cash will help in the selection of a good team. The need for money is genuine and methods must be derived to help meet the needs of workers. But a good incubator will ensure the development of an ethos.
