The Battle for Content Management System space.
Round One: Ease of Set up
I have used both systems for a while now and tested them on both local and online platforms.
The site that i was able to put up first was http://alertconsulting.net/. Getting the site running was much easier than getting a Joomla site up. So i guess the first round goes to Drupal.
Round Two: Ease of Use
I must admit that Drupal takes this one two. The designer took a lot of time creating a system that takes to step by step from one function to another until you are able to get the site up. So i guess round two also goes to Drupal.
Round Three: Concepts
Both groups design for free and give you access to plenty of updates which you can access at will. So i guess this one is a little too close to call.
Round Four: Look and Feel
Both groups have a rather impressive look although Joomla has a lot more to offer in terms of templates. Having come in a while back, there have created quite a following (30 mill according to their site). You are free to make the choice for yourself but the front end is much more attractive in Joomla. Your task in making changes will be rather demanding and will require the use of search engines (now that is a post for anther day). If you are searching for a great source of general information, please try http://www.ehow.com. Joomla takes this round hands down!
Round Five: The Problem of Updates
This round is tough to call because both group...and most groups for that matter tend to have problems when it comes to updates. Moving from one release to another can be quite the challenge. The same can be said of Operating Systems in general-this is probably the reason why after a few years, microsoft often ceases to provide support for older Operating Systems.
There is often very little time to perfect the product before you release it. The advantage of open source systems is that organizations do not always feel the pressure that paid-for-software companies feel. This round is therefore very hard to call!
